The "Berlin" shade is one of the enduring classics of industrial lighting design, renowned for its functional aesthetic and exceptional craftsmanship. Its clean, understated form is rooted in the tradition of historic factory and workshop lighting, where every design element served a practical purpose. This uncompromising focus on function has given the shade a timeless character that continues to complement industrial, traditional, and contemporary architectural settings alike.
To this day, the "Berlin" shade is handcrafted at the historic Bolich works in Germany using a traditional metal spinning lathe. This demanding forming process requires considerable skill, precision, and experience and is now mastered by only a small number of specialist manufacturers. Each shade is formed seamlessly from a flat metal blank, resulting in exceptional strength, durability, and a distinctive surface finish.
The combination of traditional craftsmanship, high-quality materials, and a design refined over generations makes the "Berlin" shade an authentic example of classic industrial lighting—bringing together functionality, durability, and timeless design in equal measure.
This light is also available with glass and a higher degree of protection for use in non-sheltered areas.
Bolich Leuchten: Tradition and progress – these characteristics shape the family-run company Bolichwerke from Baden-Wurttemberg since its foundation in 1911. Today this manufactory, named after its founder Eugen Bolich, still produces both high-quality and functional industrial fixtures, outdoor lamps and lighting for living spaces in classic design. All Bolich fixtures have a powder-coat finish. This high-quality baking varnish is by far more robust, durable and environmentally friendly than most conventional varnishes.

Degree of Protection (according to Ingress Protection Rating): IP 20, only for rain-protected places (but approved for outdoor use as "classic lighting")

All mounting types include a hemispherical metal canopy (Ø 80 mm) in the according color/finish of order. Cables, chains and steel ropes are delievered with a length of 150 cm by default.

Since 1911 the family-owned company Bolich Leuchten, based in Baden, Germany, has been renowned for manufacturing high-quality lighting for both indoor and outdoor applications. Named after the company's founder, Eugen Bolich, the traditional Ebolicht collection comprises historic factory lights, country house luminaires, and outdoor lighting in a timeless Bauhaus-inspired design. Handcrafted from aluminium, copper, and genuine glass, these luminaires are distinguished by their clean lines, robust construction, and uncompromising focus on durability. Many models are also available in custom RAL colours to meet individual project requirements.
Whether for residential or commercial applications, we have worked closely with Bolich on numerous projects involving bespoke luminaires and tailored lighting solutions. We also feature a selection of fixtures that were developed as special editions or created to our own specifications. These include patinated copper luminaires and Bolich wall lights with a nostalgic corrugated wall plate.
Please note: In the case of Bolich models in raw copper and patinated copper, the natural copper may be washed out, especially on the weather side, which can possibly leave traces on white walls.
