Outdoor Lighting for Porches and Entrance Areas
Harmonious transition between exterior and interior
Outdoor lighting for entrance areas and porches provides safety, orientation, and a welcoming atmosphere right at the front door. It creates architectural accents, highlights the façade, and gives the entrance area a stylish appearance even after dark.
Whether classic, modern, country-style, or industrial in design—the right porche lighting ideally combines functionality and aesthetics. Wall lights, lanterns, or compact designer luminaires ensure that pathways, house numbers, and doorbell areas are clearly visible and pleasantly illuminated.
Beyond appearance, quality plays a decisive role. High-grade materials such as aluminium, stainless steel, brass, or copper ensure durability and weather resistance. This guarantees that the outdoor light remains reliable over time—even in rain, frost, or strong sunlight.
With the right outdoor lighting, porches and entrance areas become not only safer but also significantly more representative. It creates a harmonious transition between outdoor and indoor spaces and highlights the character of the house from the very first impression.
Mounting Height for Outdoor Wall Lights at the Entrance
The mounting height of an entrance light is often determined by existing wiring and is typically positioned around eye level – approximately 1.60 to 1.80 metres from the ground to the centre of the outdoor wall light. At this mounting height, relatively flush mount wall lights are generally the most suitable option.
With tall doors and historic façades, for example where there is a raised entrance with steps, a higher mounting position of more than two metres is often possible. In such cases, larger upward-facing lanterns with wall arms or shade lights that direct the light downwards are particularly suitable.
Barn lights are also suitable for mounting above the entrance door. Downward-facing wall-arm lanterns can be used there too, provided they can be mounted with sufficient clearance above the door
Types of Lighting for Different Entrance Situations
Depending on the architectural situation, different types of lighting are suitable for entrances:
- Outdoor Wall Lights – for front doors, entrances and façades
- Wall Lanterns – for classic and historic architecture
- Flush-Mount Wall Lights – for small entrances and tight spaces
- Hanging Lanterns – for covered entrances and canopies
- Outdoor Ceiling Lights – for entrance areas with low mounting height
- Pier Mount Lights – for lighting paths, steps and driveways
- Modern Outdoor Wall Lights – for contemporary, minimalist architecture
