Description

The original Bavarian garden and pathway light from Munich is handcrafted in brass or copper, based on historic originals. Its distinctive truncated pyramid roof with a stylized chimney is a defining feature of this lantern.

Over time, the unvarnished or untreated versions of this outdoor light develop an authentic and unique patina, enhancing the lamp’s antique character.

Münchener Laternen (Munich Lanterns) are genuine masterpieces of German lantern manufacturing. The history of this manufactory goes back 125 years. Both consistent innovation and thorough final inspection makes each of these lights an elegant piece of lasting value for tastefully furnished houses and manors.

For luminaires with a wall arm or pedestal/post base, these load-bearing structural components are always manufactured from solid brass, even on models with a copper lantern body. For the "Natural Copper, Unlacquered" finish, the supporting elements are likewise supplied in untreated natural brass. In this state, the two materials are visibly different: the copper exhibits a warm reddish tone, while the brass has a distinctive golden colour. With pre-treated or patinated finishes, however, there is virtually no visible difference between the copper and brass components.
When installed outdoors, both materials naturally develop a protective patina over time. As they are exposed to the elements, their surfaces gradually weather and their colours become increasingly similar. As the patina matures, the copper and brass components become almost indistinguishable.

Münchener Laternen  (Munich Lanterns) are genuine masterpieces of German lantern manufacturing. The small family-owned company began in 1883 by producing handcrafted utility items from brass and copper, and soon became a supplier to the Royal Bavarian Court. To this day, its classic-modern and historic outdoor lights are handcrafted by master artisans in the family-owned workshops in the Bavarian capital.

Alongside perfectly proportioned wall lanterns in an understated southern German style, the manufactory creates historic faceted-glass lanterns in the Baroque style of the Alpine foothills, as well as handcrafted designs inspired by Romanesque old-town lanterns. These designs reflect the influence of French style on the Kingdom of Bavaria since the era of Napoleon Bonaparte.

All Munich outdoor lights are individually handcrafted and finished with authentic patina surfaces, making them ideal for long-term use at entrances, on façades, or in gardens.

The Bavarian manufacturer also offers a beautiful selection of exclusive brass interior lighting:
