Particularly during the initial stage of patina formation, rainwater or condensation can wash iron oxides from the surface onto façades, walls, or garden plinths. This can cause orange-brown to dark-brown discoloration.
Once a stable patina has formed, rust runoff generally decreases significantly. However, discoloration caused by runoff cannot be completely ruled out. For outdoor lights mounted directly on light-colored façades or sensitive surfaces, rust-coloured alternatives are therefore often the better choice.
